How do I create a SkillsWindow.com account?

Creating a SkillsWindow.com account is easy. Just go to the Home page and click on the Join SkillsWindow.com link in the Sign Up section on the left.

How long does my information remain on SkillsWindow.com?

Your information can is kept securely on SkillsWindow.com for as long as you choose. By default, each new account is active for 6 months. You can extend that period at any time. If your account remains inactive for over 18 months, your information will be automatically removed.

What if I forget my password?

Use the Forgot Your Password? link in the administration login to have your password sent to your specified email address.

How do I delete my account?

Once you are logged in, you are able to change your account status to Inactive or Deleted. Accounts marked for deletion are removed automatically in the next system maintenance action.

How do I make changes to my profile?

Making changes to your profile is easy. Simply log in with your chosen username and password and use the Administration section to manage your account, your profile and your skills.

Searching for skills

For potential employers seeking skilled personnel, SkillsWindow.com is designed to make it easy to target search according to skill, location, availability, languages and several other criteria. You can search directly from the Home page or you can use the Advanced Search page to input even more specific options.

Contacting candidates

As a rule, the candidates’ email address is not available in the public domain. Mailing addresses and phone numbers are optionally entered by the potential employees. To contact a potential employee by email, please use the field at the bottom of the potential employee’s profile to input your email address or phone number and a message will be forwarded to that person. They will then get back in touch with you once they get the message.

Privacy and confidentiality

By its very nature, SkillsWindow.com is a means for publicising your skills in order to make potential employers aware of your capabilities and availability. At no time is the information shared en bloc with any third party website or listing. You can feel secure in the knowledge that the information is stored in a secure database and your contact information will never be revealed without your permission.

Acceptable use guidelines:

The compilation (meaning the collection, arrangement and assembly) of all content on www.skillswindow.com (together, the “Site”) is the exclusive property of Messrs. Carlton & Stedley Fearon (“The Owners”), and is protected by Jamaican and international copyright laws. The Owners do not claim ownership of content submitted to or made available for inclusion on the Site. The Owners are the sole interpreter of these guidelines and may change these rules at any time. Additionally, The Owners may remove content from the Site at any time.

The following guidelines cover jobs, résumés, profiles, cover letters, job applications and any and all communications among users of the Site (including, but not limited to employers, recruiters, advertisers and job seekers). For additional information and restrictions, see The SkillsWindow.com Terms of Service regarding member conduct, http://www.skillswindow.com/termsofuse.php.

The Site may be used only for lawful purposes. If you direct potential employers to leave the Site, you permit The Owners to frame any of the materials or information to which you link such potential employer.

The following practices are prohibited:

  • Advertising several job categories within a single skill posting
  • Use of the following html tags/text formatting options: hidden text, text the same or similar colour as the background, text placed behind an object or graphic, text in a font that is smaller than 9 point, or any other method intended to shield or hide text. Using marquee, scroll, or hide tags in a personal profile is also prohibited.
  • Keyword spamming: Keyword spamming is defined as adding multiple, unrelated job titles, job categories, and keywords to a description. Only job titles, categories, and keywords that directly relate to the skill being described may appear in the skill posting.
  • Category spamming: Category spamming is defined as posting a job under categories that do not relate directly to the job being described in the job post.
  • Improper use of intellectual property: You many not post any copyrighted material unless you own the copyright or have the owner's written permission to post the material. A skill posting cannot contain trade secrets unless you own them or have the owner's written permission to post them. A skill posting cannot contain material that infringes on or misappropriates any intellectual property rights, or violates the privacy or publicity rights of others.
  • Posting or including anything that is discriminatory, sexually explicit, obscene, libellous, defamatory, threatening, harassing, abusive, or hateful. A skill posting may not contain anything that could reasonably be considered embarrassing or offensive to a person or entity.
  • Posting false, inaccurate, or misleading information
  • Posting skills with insufficient information to clearly convey the nature and capabilities of the job seeker, Skill postings that encourage the user to "e-mail for more details" are not permitted.
  • Deleting and re-posting a job for the purpose of making it appear new. There is no need to do this as jobs are not listed in date order. Each search result is randomly generated so all available skills have an equal opportunity of being seen.

The following actions are prohibited:

  • Impersonating SkillsWindow.com: All Site elements including text, media, buttons, logos, and brand-names are for the exclusive use of The Owners and/or SkillsWindow.com and are copyrighted and protected by copyright law. Individuals posting on the Site may not copy, re-use, or alter any Site elements. These elements may not be used within job descriptions or anywhere off the Site such as in individual or company communications, e-mail, etc. It is illegal for individuals, companies, or other organizations to represent themselves or communicate with others in a way that makes them appear to be part of SkillsWindow.com.
  • Aggregating, copying, or duplicating in any manner any of the materials, data, or information available from the Site
  • Individual profiles that misrepresent the actual identity of the person that is seeking employment. Posting a listing confidentially is acceptable
  • Disclosing to or sharing with any other person or entity your password that allows access to a non-public area of the Site or using your password for any unauthorized purpose
  • Framing of or linking to any of the materials or information available from the Site
  • Engaging in any action that may alter the appearance of the Site

Prohibited Content

  • Specific types of listings that are prohibited from the site include the following financial scams (sometimes referred to as “419” scams) which may include but are not limited to,
  • Soliciting a Potential Employer to act as a middleman to a transaction between two or more other parties
  • Check-cashing offers (offering Potential Employers a commission for cashing checks or money orders)
  • Solicitation of bank account information, social security numbers
  • Solicitation of any other personal information that is not needed to review a candidate’s professional capabilities
  • Companies and individuals may not post any skills on SkillsWindow.com for any competitor of SkillsWindow.com or post skills or other content that contains links to any site competitive with SkillsWindow.com; (b) post skills or content on SkillsWindow.com that contain hyperlinks, "hidden" keywords or keywords that are irrelevant to the skill or are otherwise misleading; (c) post skills for modelling or talent or talent scouting positions on SkillsWindow.com; post any franchise, pyramid scheme, "club membership", distributorship or sales representative agency arrangement or other business opportunity which requires an up front or periodic payment, pays commissions only (except for postings that make clear that the available skill pays commission only and clearly describes the product or service that the job seeker would be selling, in which case such postings are permissible), or requires recruitment of other members, sub-distributors or sub-agents
